Anyone for an Aperitivo?

To say goodbye though, we went for one of my favourite Italian rituals – the aperitivo!
The aperitivo is not a happy hour. Sometimes it is translated this way, but it is definitely not the same thing… At happy hour you get money off drinks, two for the price of one offers etc. At an aperitivo you may actually find yourself paying more for your drink, but it will be accompanied by food (aha! Now you understand why I like it so much).
Spicy Pumpkin Risotto

Tonight I went to my friend Isabel’s house for dinner and she made me a delicious plate of risotto with squash:
This is true comfort food, straight from the cool (relatively) climes of Lombardy in the North of Italy, and with its deep, warm colour and slightly spicy sweetness it is a good winter warmer and a true December classic in my kitchen – it helps that it is quick and easy to make too!
